(Will be played on the HaloHantis Account) Character Name: Broxigar, the Nomad
Race: Orc
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Character Description: Broxigar is an ashen purple orc of considerable size, being roughly eight feet tall. A powerful build that allows for all manner of work or combat, he wears various coverings and clothes across his form.
A poncho of sorts acts as a protective barrier from the weather as he wears a plain wooden mask over his face. Along with simple wrappings and coverings one might see for a desert wanderer he has a girdle of sorts, similar to a kilt, that was to keep his lower torso better protected. A large metal buckle secured it as it allowed for easy movement that made it practical, wrappings of cloth underneath. From there he wore leather shin and wrist guards that seemed aged with wear and use.
Character Occupation:
Broxigar is a smith, and miner. To further compound, and clarify, these skills he is able to prospect for ore and perform simple wood workings. His masonry is passable, and he’s able to build structures from stone and wood that were preferably suited for mining. All of it paying homage to his work as a miner, prospector, and worker within a labor force.
Languages: Common, Goblin, Orcish
Character Personality/Traits:
They are a quiet one for the most part, an introvert of sorts, that prefers being on their own and away from noisy places so that they can focus on more passionate projects. Despite this they have a drive for improvement in their life, wanting to find their own place in the world where they can stand strong. An interest in metal, and strength, they seek to find their own footing where possible and regain what was lost.
Despite their shortcomings they are a follower of conflict, and seek strength where they can. Whether it be within their craft, or against someone they must fight.
Character Biography:
The tribes of the orcs were not usually nomadic folk and that included Broxigar’s, but that did not mean travel itself did not have a use.
Born during the height of summer, Broxigar was a large baby and a blessing upon the tribe he was brought up in as all healthy children are. Though some tragedy was present of course as his mother, Geyah, did not survive her labor, Broxigar’s father Garrabo would be the one to raise and bring him up with hopeful pride. Eager to bring forward a new warrior, he would prepare the child to be of use over the years while dealing with the conflicts that all parents and tribes deal with.
In-fighting wasn’t ultimately the most common thing but many tribes did not get along or have the same methods to doing things so a bit of conflict between one another was common, it’s why a strong chief was always needed to settle fruitless bouts between varying orcs. Garrabo himself being a medical man often dealt with the after effects of such related to their work, patching up various orcs and so on. He was a partially cripple orc from his own time fighting, but had learned to be of use in other ways as to not be a burden upon his tribe. So while he himself could not reach greatness his progeny certainly could, or at least that would be his goal.
Broxigar was not the most wild of children despite their size, in fact the attention it called to him seemed to make the orc somewhat distanced from others. Even more so as his father would push him towards showing strength or interacting with the other young orcs in ways that did not feel right to Broxigar. Fighting others for the sake of it, or as some show, was an awkward thing to him that he did not fully grasp within his youth, leading to him actually losing against smaller kids as he was not nearly as quick witted or willing to fight all out. This softer personality within him was a great disappointment from his father, one which was often recognized by Broxigar even if not always directly said. He’d not lose hope in him at the very least, expecting the world from him.
The child was ultimately a late bloomer to some degree, at least socially, as he physically grew up to be quite big even in his teens. He’d take interest in more constructive arts and works, apprenticing under other orcs here and there to begin the gaining of knowledge and skills over time. Something he believed would make his father proud, while being something he could accomplish properly. As well as an opportunity to step away from things, as he would be traveling between various tribes to assist, trade, and hopefully learn while seeking new opportunities to benefit his people and himself.
Moving towards early adulthood he'd not seen his father for some time during his travels, a slight worry for him that he had to mostly keep to himself. Especially as his master was a work oriented person, not even letting the orc call him by name given his role as an apprentice. They would meet with other orcs, goblins, and assist with offers from their own tribe while also working towards things they might need. Often spending varying degrees of time amongst these other peoples, he’d help with smithing projects and mining operations for them. Assuming proper trade and offering was given for such, of course.
This involved plenty of prospecting and learning of new techniques on the fly… The methods of a goblin group might be completely different from one that an Orcish group had after all. Which was even more so given the disparity between how they even interacted with one another. He’d even get to see a troll working with one of these groups to assist with digging and heavy work, the dumb thing seeming happy to dig like a kid playing in dirt. And while Broxigar’s master was not very social, he was dutiful in his teachings and work. The benefit of having younger hands in his travels became more and more apparent as the orc learned, and it was an interesting comfort as well for Broxigar given how he did not need to fight as much. Or at least that was the general thought for the most part…
Traveling between the tribes was a dangerous thing at times, it required smart choices and careful movements between. Some even utilized dire wolves for quick and safe movement, though Broxigar did not have that luxury. His travel came with the safety of numbers for the most part, though not overly great ones given what they offered to others. A handful at most that looked out for one another and worked together when meeting with various other groups. And with that meant the need to learn to fight at a bare minimum for Broxigar. Though he still found comfort with somewhat indirect tools like crossbows and great bows of course.
After several years along the path, his apprenticeship being continued and furthered, the orc would be returning home to rest and check in. It wasn’t the first time they had come back of course, any direct trade needed to be returned, but this was the time they came back for a long stop beyond a simple drop of goods or knowledge. And for Broxigar it meant the ability to choose his path for himself, and seek the approval from his father that he desperately yearned for. His tribe was located along the far east of the Mesa and near the Savannah, a place with difficulty and opportunity given the flourishing life present from the nearby river. The group practically burrowed into the stones of the nearby mountain structures surrounding it, he was looking forward to showing his worth.
But that would not be the case, as they would arrive to smoke, rubble, and ash across their home. Broxigar’s home seemingly sundered by an unknown presence for an unknown reason. His family gone, familiarity and comforts of home taken, there was nothing to be found when they first arrived. It was only later, during their searches, where a few heavily injured survivors were discovered and confirmed what had happened. The fire dragon of the Mesa seemingly having caught their ire for one reason or another, and decided to destroy their small tribe. Broxigar himself unaware of the happenings between their tribes' decisions or how it even might have affected the dragon to cause such a backlash was filled with considerable anger and frustration.
The orc would search for his old home here, the assumed corpse of his father, and eventually take his leave. There was nothing to gain here, he thought, and he needed new strength and ability. To hone himself more than ever thought of before… He decided to leave his master and group and head west, seeking to gather and learn of abilities from the more notable kingdom groups. Knowing of stories surrounding their feats, he believed it to be a fruitful path.
Other/Extra: They are epic?
Magic Biography:
Magic amongst orcs is extremely rare, and even more so are magical items which could test these abilities and confirm them. So unlike the elves or people of the west who may stumble upon simple examples of such, Broxigar would not have that luxury. He would not be aware of his magic ability, and his connections to Bothimir throughout his life until not only coming into contact with something magical but having the time to examine such properly.
True focus needed for such an unfamiliar sensation, he’d have to truly touch it, or be offered something ultimately. Like the sensation of warmth radiating from a warm pan, or a unique texture that one does not normally feel, it'd be noted by the senses as information on the object came forward. The orc’s eyes would widen as he examined it further and grasped onto the sensation with profound curiosity.
After such an examination of something magical the signs would be clear of his magical ability, his gift from Bothimir. A new notch added in his goals to gain further strength so that he may retaliate against his greater foe. Whether it be newfound enchantment, or the desire to aspect in a specific magic, he’d be on the look out of such once getting a feel for it.
Please describe the magic system, including its limitations in your own words:
The short rundown of the magic system in Saphriel is based on those who have the magic of Bothimir, an available aspect, if they have trinkets/natural casting, and how many spell slots are available to them. With proper training they all function well, and to varying degrees of utility and direct power.
Every race has different amounts of aspects with some even having more than one or none at all. They all follow similar rules as well when casting magic. Requiring sight for the most part, only some spells and specific cast can be from the person itself. And when casting magic it can become extremely dangerous to cast beyond the limit of set spell slots. An increasing DC must be passed with each consecutive over casting spell, or one suffers instant death. Beyond death there are plenty of negatives associated with overcasting such as headaches, migraines, dizziness, and so on as the ‘muscle’ of the mind is overworked.
Beyond racial focuses and the limitations on casting, trinkets themself are quite limited too. Each has specific aspects, and specific levels for cast. For instance a medium water trinket cannot be casted at a strong level, and in fact attempting to do so can cause the trinket to potentially break or explode.
Please describe how you would use a weak trinket with your characters first/only aspect:
If Broxigar were to be a fire mage he’d utilize a trinket of fire to cast at a weak level, going to release short bursts of sparks for the sake of igniting various wicks across bombs. An easy use function of weak fire magic that allows faster release of bombs and no need for an immediate sparker. Using this same concept he could ignite the tinder for a campfire, or forge, with the light sparks of fire magic.
