Character Name: Calissir
Race: High Elf
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Character Description:
An almost sickly pale looking High Elf that stands at 6’8" evenly as they're growing still. They have well-kept, short hair that is a deep amethyst color with a bright orange cowlick right behind their short bangs. Their eyes were of a deep ocean blue. When not in their standard issue elven leaf mail strapped with a scabbard for a curved serpent sword, they wear a thin and light silk choker with a skin tight green top that goes up to their upper pecs and exposes the top of their shoulders slightly. They wear a purple tank-top cardigan with accents of gold that goes down slightly above the wrists. A small scarf attached at the pecs hangs down to their waist. Their leggings stop right at their calves and the color matches their top, but with a slightly darker coloration. They wear a simple black pair of heels that is slightly lifted, not even an inch.
Their body is littered with various tattoos; from their oath to life around their hips, to the history of the elves on their hands and feet, their chest carries their oath to the Elven people and life, and their back is completely barren. Their right wrist has a floral design encompassing one symbol, a simplistic design of a pair of leaves sprouting from the ground, and the shadow it casts. Their arms are rather barren as their history is still being written, though their time in the Hall of Sky and their focus is tattooed clear as day on their hands.
Character Occupation:
Scroll Guardian
Character Personality/Traits:
Devotion and protection to life, that is who they are at their core. This is to the Elven people, not so much the other races of the world. They are pragmatic, a bit cold, and calculating. They tend to withhold thoughts, rarely smile, and are a pacifist in general. When forced to fight, they have an even emptier look, one that makes it seem that they are not really there. This is to hide the feeling of despair that they feel when forced into conflict as well as an intimidation tactic.
When they do speak, it is often very short lived. Short, simple, and to the point, but they do not tend to tolerate being interrupted. There’s a few things in the world that would bring a slight smirk to their face, and that would be sweets. Rarely something that they get, they cherish the opportunity to indulge in the delicacy.
They are incredibly cleanly, hating being dirty what-so-ever and will show and be vocal about their disgust.
Character Biography:
Calissir was born about five years after the plague that devastated the Kingdom of Saphriel. The problems it has caused was something he recalls hearing about quite vividly from his parents. From his parents losing friends, to losing family, there were many impacts the blight had on his family. It was such a consistency at his young age that one of those conversations is the only real memory of his parents that he can recall. They are but a floating distorted image in his early memories of the Hall of Sky.
The Hall of Sky is his home, but his opinions on it have changed drastically over the years of being there. From scared, to accepting, to finally loving the place, not to mention some of the unpleasant thoughts that were rather quickly stamped out, Calissir has a myriad of opinions on the Hall. They are all positive now and he struggles with thoughts on what will happen when he turns 25. Uncertainty of the future is a concern, especially after he spent a majority of his time there.
There were many friends he had made with the children in the Hall of Sky, some stayed and some were placed in the Hall of Earth. It tends to be quite rapid at certain ages when some will seemingly drop off the face of the world, while others stay.
Outside of his daily classes and responsibilities, Calissir would take solitude in cleaning their room, to an obsessive level. When they weren’t cleaning their room, they would be reading whatever books they could get their hands on. Some of it was theory and concepts, some fiction, and some history. Though his favorite books were cheesy romance novels, something he believes he can not and should not have.
For combat training, he mainly stuck with the serpent sword. It was elegant and culturally appropriate. A lot of history was made with the sword and so it was fitting in his eyes. That of course wasn’t the only training he received, but it was the weapon he focused on.
Language classes were his favorite, as was history given how much reading was involved. Learning new languages and understanding them well, meant that it would open a whole new world of books to read, or so he believes.
History was important, and he fully believed that. He would study it religiously, whereas the other classes were things he looked or not looked forward to. Given the job, it only made sense for him to have been instilled with an understanding of how important the history of his people is. Due to that, while not necessarily being affected by the Pact War, the Demon War, and many of the other plights on the land, he knew and understood them. Those classes instilled hatred for the Pact races that to this day, has stuck with him.
Learning the more current and recent histories of the world, he has a slight inkling of hope for the Pact races as the stories of the valor and bravery of certain few have stuck with him. He is an isolationist when it comes to thoughts on non-elves, heavily so for the general populace of Pact Races. Whereas for the non-Pact races, he is seen more as a guide.
He was assigned to a loremaker as any other student was, his name was Lerifern. An older high elf, on the cusp of the end, but was still kicking it for quite some time. The man and Calissir’s relationship was a professional one, but he hopes that Lerifern saw him as a friend as he saw the loremaster. There were plenty of lessons to be had, long days learning from him and plenty of explorative questions asked. The child was rather curious about the world around them after all and what to expect as the years go on in his training.
Things changed when Lerifern became too worn down by his life as the years caught up to him. The transition from Lerifern to Lord Acheron began around the time Calissir was rather recent. On his bed, Lerifern gave Calissir well wishes and to hope that he thrives in life, and not to meet one another too soon.
The newly assigned Loremaster was not one Calisir had not worked with in the past. Lord Acheron was the one to do many of his tattoos, whereas Lerifern had only worked on the tattoos denoting his magical aspects and aptitude.
It was shortly after the transition period fully finished when Lord Acheron approached Calissir for his focus. It was there that Calissir wished to pursue anatomy and physiology, in hopes of one day figuring out the cause of his difference in appearance. Why do high elves sometimes have blue eyes that do not match their hair? Why might some parts of their hair differ from the majority? These are the things he is interested in determining.

Magic Biography:
It was a nice day outside, Calissir thought as he looked up at the clear blue sky. The ideas and thoughts were racing through his mind. It was testing day, and for him, his second. He previously saw no signs of magical aptitude, but perhaps he was a late bloomer. At least, that is what he keeps telling himself.
Lerifern called out to Calissir, motioning him to come along. A gulp was had as they moved through the Hall of Sky and into the testing room. Trinkets were laid out for all to see, simple and weak things they were. Though none of them were explained to students on what they did or what aspect they were aligned to. That was for them to find out, and a rather well kept secret between those that know.
“It is time now-” Lerifern beckoned him forward. “Now, hold your hand out and focus. Take slow deep breaths as you do so. Let your mind’s eye paint a picture for you.”
Calissir followed the instructions with a bit of confusion. “What is this mind’s eye? The rest makes sense… but that?” he quietly thought to himself as he closed his eyes, and held his hand over one of the trinkets. Slow deep breaths welled in his chest as he focused on the ambient energy supposedly in the air.
Five, then ten, then thirty minutes passed. Lerifern looked disappointed, but Calissir didn’t notice. “It seems you do not have the gift. That is fine. It just means you need to work much harder for a house to select you. Nothing wrong with that.”
Calissir thought to himself or at least he thought he did when the words escaped his mouth “Just one more minute.” There was a silence in the room before he turned to Lerifern, “I’m sorry for the outburst.” He let his body slump slightly, not the best sign, but it portrayed well the sincerity of his apology.
“It is alright, do not let it happen again. Especially with any lords or ladies.” Lerifern smiled before beckoning him forward.
A simple nod was had before he stood back up, his hand grasping the pedestal for support and his hand touching the artifact. That was when he felt it, a surge of energy coursing through him. While it was a weak trinket, the experience was quite new. He paused briefly and let go, looking at his hands before looking at the trinket.
Lerifern was already walking away and at the sound of only one pair of footsteps being had, turned around and looked at Calissir. “You’re not coming it would seem, why is that, young Calissir?”
“I… I think I have it now.” he turned to look at Lerifern who had lifted an eyebrow briefly. “It is- weak, but I felt the energy.”
“That is quite exciting, perhaps there was a block to your mind’s eye and physical touch was required. Though, not quite following protocol, it is good news. Tell me, what do you see now?”
Calissir looked back at the trinket and began to feel out the energy, the surge came back and with it, new knowledge as he smiled. “Fire, weak. Slightly keeps you warm.” he turned back to Lerifern who nodded with approval.
“You’re right, that is good. We can look at what aspects call to you now.”
The two of them began the task of finding the aspects that resonated most with Calissir. They ended up with earth, water, alteration, and dark.
“I have just the idea in mind for your next tattoo, your aspects are quite useful in plenty of manners. You have many opportunities and various ways you can use each aspect in life and in battle. A house surely will appreciate these aspects of yours.”
The two of them went out of the testing chamber, leaving behind the artifacts of old and began tattooing the aspects onto his wrist. A simple design showing off each aspect in one concept was made. That of a sprouting plant and its shadow.
Please describe the magic system, including its limitations in your own words:
The magic system is rather free-form and encourages experimentation, but there are some rather hard set rules. Certain spells must be learned in-character, races have a certain number of aspects that are unchanging unless under specific instances. Certain aspects do not allow aspecting in the other, particularly holy and dark.
Trinkets are needed to cast magic, save for those with natural casting like half-demons and beast races. Even then, only these are capable of casting their natural magic up to medium. To cast beyond, they must possess a trinket beyond medium. With each race's aspects, they’re allowed to cast above medium magic for the certain number of aspects they possess. Though they’re not barred from casting the other aspects up to medium, save for instances of holy and dark.
Cantrips are spells that are four levels below the strongest level, they cost no spell slots, but only in non-stressful situations. Cantrips can not be done in combat due to this and require the mage to be at least strong to even begin casting cantrips.
Mastery increases the total number of spell slots depending on how many aspects past a certain level a person has. It requires a mage to have at least two aspects at a strong level and gives a bonus of one max spell of the highest level. It can increase further with more aspects at stronger levels of magic, but count as half a spell slot that is rounded down.
Please describe how you would use a weak trinket with your characters first/only aspect:
If Calissir had a weak trinket of alteration, they would be able to do very minor things. Slightly changing the most simple of properties that the object has. Slightly changing the flavor, scent, or color of an object. They would also be able to dry and remove stains on objects.
Alteration itself requires time to do, it is not a quick magic as it is raw chaos. It is able to alter once living materials if it was processed enough. Plant life and flesh can be changed, but it requires at least a strong level mage.
Hi there! This application is Pending.
This application is mostly great but there's a few things I want you to update for me and those are the age, and the height. Staff do not have the time to really be playing the NPCs of the school quite frequently and until your Scroll Guardian is 25, they would not be leaving the Hall of Sky. It is recommended you make them the age where they can at least be picked up by a House, that way they can leave and have a little more freedom to commit to their duties. Otherwise, the only other thing to change would be his height. 5'10" is far too short for the age he would be coming in as, and you'd want him to likely be at least be around the mid-high 6ft range, maybe higher depending on what his end height will be with the minimum being 6'10" and the maximum being 7'2" save for extremely rare cases.
