(Will be adding this to my N3v3rm0r3 account. A little more of an adventurous character compared to my scaredy cat, Quinnik.)
Character Name: Koehen Jacos
Race: High Elf
Age: 46
Gender: Male
Character Description:
A tall and slender individual with soft pale skin, making him wary of the summer sun so as to not ruin his complexion. His well groomed violet hair which he keeps down rolls across his shoulders hanging down to just above his waist. The sharp features of his face lead to his playful violet eyes. A soft gray blouse clings to his form, cinched around his waist by a pair of high waisted black pants and a belt that holds a flowing gray coat with a purple inner lining closed. He stands at 7ft tall with a lean build.
Character Occupation: He’s working on it-
Character Personality/Traits:
A sense of uncaring is heavy in this man’s step, a hint of mischief and amusement ever present across his features. Always on the look for his next form of entertainment, whether that be an intriguing conversation, an adventure outside the city, or through more carnal means.
Koehen doesn’t mind the heads he turns or the whispers of his personal doings, in fact he smiles at the attention it brings him. He’s always looking for some form of validation or attention in people, seeking to stroke his ego or toy with them. Koehen keeps a simple amused smile on his face to insinuate his confident ire, though his need for validation and distraction doesn’t leave him, making him touchy and defensive about his acts, jumping to aggressive language when questioned by other elves and simply leaving the situation when targeted by other races.
Character Biography:
Born to a Seryn, Kainda Jacos, Koehen from birth had heavy expectations placed on him. His mother moved him into training and teachings to become a merchant, having him apprentice under different merchants of different trades for many years. Koehen struggled to show interest in any of the trades, his attention never being held long enough for him to learn much of anything. The merchants always sent him back to his mother, claiming he was disrespectful, abrasive, and unattentive. After being sent back a couple times his mother grew increasingly more frustrated with him, having moved from her home in Barkemsted to Falkvard to take care of him away from the brutalities of the Arcadia war and leaving her family behind. Kainda wanted only what was best for her son but had moved to shaming and punishment in order to get Koehen to cooperate with what she wanted for him. Koehen, ever defiant, only lashed out more, running from home for days at a time, moving to illegal activities for entertainment and throwing away everything his mother had built for him as well as the expectations society had set for him.
When Koehen was 25, his mother had another child, Neridia Jacos. Koehen’s mother’s attention moved to her new child, having assumedly given up on Koehen. With the attention leaving him, he went about his usual bouts of delinquency without much repercussion from his family. Koehen would be gone anywhere from days to weeks at a time, his mother barely noticing his absence. During Koehen’s absences, he mingled with unsavory types, spending a lot of his time with a half elf, Kavan Haphrian. A sun tanned blonde haired man with stark blue eyes. The two grew very close over the course of a few years, getting into all sorts of mischief together. Kavan began to pursue Koehen romantically, which Koehen entertained for some time, though his intrigue was more for the taboo of it all more than actual romantic interest. Unfortunately for Koehen, he did begin to catch feelings for Kavan, though the nature of their relationship wasn’t going to be approved of by any means and would likely leave him punished in some way. This began to scare Koehen as Kavan became more serious with him, causing Koehen to back away and close himself off. The idea of having to keep his lover in total secret for what he believed would be the rest of their lives tore at Koehen, and made him fear for his own wellbeing. Koehen eventually abandoned Kavan, retreating back to his family and his now 5 year old sister.
Koehen’s behavior lightened up from there, spending a lot of his time with his sister as she grew up, caring deeply for her. His mother still wasn’t fond of Koehen but was pleased with his calming attitude. While he had calmed down in his delinquent acts, he still indulged in them on occasion, now attempting to be more clever with his choice in times he left and who he went to. Now 46, his mother decided she wanted to return to Barkemsted with her daughter, informing Koehen that he will need to prove that he can be useful to the family in order to return home with them.
Others/Extras: Magic Application Magic Biography:
Koehen has very little experience with the actual castings of magic, though he did see many use magic for simple tasks while apprenticing under the merchants. His mother was practiced in simple illusion magics, mostly worrying about her complexion and looks for the temporary pleasure of whoever she was set to be with.
Koehen would always express interest in the practice of magicks but with his lack of commitment in his other studies his mother never pushed for him to be taught. He found the use of illusion magic very intriguing, and in recent months has been actively looking into the practice of the aspect. Koehen’s ambition currently is to learn the tricks his mother had used in his past, and how one uses the magic in a more combative setting, as adventure has caught his eye. He wishes to study how others cast, how they use the aspects, and how he can use that in his own studies. This being one of the few things he’s actually interested in, he is a very excited student.
Please describe the magic system, including it’s limitations in your own words:
With the use of a Trinket, a caster would be able to channel a specific Aspect depending on the trinkets aspect and power level. A caster’s own capabilities are also taken into account when casting, as one couldn’t cast anything higher than the trinkets level.
Magic is limiting in who can cast it as well, leaving High elves far more capable than other races, while others, like Orcs, are almost completely incapable. The ability to cast is one that is established at birth, though may not show in the caster until later in life, usually around adolesence. While magic has chosen in a sense to favor some races over others, pushing oneself beyond what you are practiced in can be very dangerous and perhaps lethal. Using more powerful spells can be very tiring for the caster, while using smaller spells cause very little fatigue. While the use of a trinket allows one to cast, there is also physical limitations such as touch, range, concentration, and sight. If one is not able to see the target or the area they wish to affect they may not be able to conjure effect. Touch can be far more advantageous with certain magicks as it allows for more percision. With the combination of needing the natural affinity for magic, a trinket, and suitable situations, you also need skill. Time training and honing your skill in order to produce magic in any capacity. Spending time with a mentor can excelerate ones progress in their skill as with anything. One can also, depending on their race, use more than one aspect of magic at a time, though a trinket for each is necessary and casting both is very strenious on the caster.
Please describe how you would use a weak trinket with your character’s first/only aspect:
While attuning with a weak illusion trinket, Koehen would find ways to toy with people, speaking without moving his mouth and shrugging and acting none the wiser when questioned. Showing flashes of him engaging in conversation to hide his own amusement on the topic. Ultimately simple things to screw around and poke for reactions.
This application is Accepted. The appropriate edits have been made and fit what we expect of a magic application. Koehen Jacos is now welcome to Saphriel, and you may expect a fresh starter kit and starting funds to be sent to the N3v3rm0r3 account for him!
This application is Pending.
Thank you for your patience! This application is very sound overall, and the character himself checks out for server lore. However, the magic application is slightly lacking in places, just enough so that it will need to be adjusted with deeper understanding of the system. Namely, your description of the magic system and its limitations needs to be more thorough. Beyond just requiring a trinket, a, caster must have the natural capacity for casting magic, as well as time spent training into higher aspects, and requirements for casting magic to begin with (such as concentration, sight). Once this part of the application has been adjusted, please ping me for another review!
